In 1998, after completing his pediatric residency at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, Dr. Tim Henschel felt called to provide pediatric care to children in Williamson County who could not conveniently access care because of their lack of insurance or TennCare (Medicaid) coverage.  Feeling this burden, he began meeting with local pastors, businessmen, and community leaders to explore the possibility of establishing a clinic where these children could receive care.  After several months of discussion, Mercy Children’s Clinic was created out of the belief that local businesses, churches, and individuals, and not solely the government, should help shoulder the burden for providing care for these children.

Incorporated as a Tennessee not-for-profit in April of 1999, Mercy Children’s Clinic (MCC) began seeing patients on November 1, 1999 in a small house on Ninth Avenue in the heart of downtown Franklin.  The following May they moved into the facility next door and have steadily grown ever since.  With the vision of providing quality pediatric care to any child who needs it, MCC has impacted the lives of thousands of children and their families and continues to do so today.

In 2006, Mercy Family Services – mental health and social services – became reality to make Mercy even more comprehensive.  In 2008, the Chronic Care Medical Home was instituted in order to ensure the proper management of the care-plans of our patients inside and outside of Mercy.  Hundreds of our children must see 2, 4, 8, 12 or more specialists in order to receive the care they need – Mercy is the “general contractor” for each of these children.

In 2009, Mercy became one of a hand-full of clinics across the state certified as an Autism testing site.

In November 2009 Mercy moved into a brand new facility off of Murfreesboro Road where they are currently located.  The new building is three times the size of their old location and because they’re blessed by a generous community almost everything in the entire building is donated.

Now after 10 years of caring for children from 33 counties in Tennessee and beyond, Mercy has seen more than 9,500 children. Our Board Certified staff of MD’s provides the best of care whether you have insurance, TennCare, or no insurance at all!  Our mission:  To reflect the love and compassion of Jesus Christ by providing quality healthcare to ALL children and support to their families.
